Default Manually shifting an automatic....

Now that I have a little over 1,000 miles on my 04 Z51 3.15 A4 vert, I have been having some fun with it. I am a little frustrated with the transmission and would like some input. For the last 10 years I have had a 94 2.79 A4 coupe. I could put the tranny in first, ease into it hard, and then bump it to second at the appropriate time and never had any problems - just a nice firm shift. I try to do the same thing with the 04 and I keep hitting the rev limiter. I know the LS1 revs much faster and there is also a difference in the gearing. It just seems like there is quite a delay between when I put it in 2nd and when the shift occurs. It is also a much softer and longer duration shift than the 94.

Yes, I know it is an A4 and not an M6, but I like to have a little fun once in a while. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Would tuning with a Preditor help this?

You are on a very quick road to destroying the A4 in your car. I would recommend adjusting the shift points via a tuning software package. If you do want to have those harder firmer shifts I would recommend having a TransGo shift kit installed.

Predator will make a big diff, but it is not yet ready for the 04. :nonod:
Soon I hope. I was able to firm and quicken up the shifts. You will be able to adjust the shift points and rev limiter.
:iagree: I do agree with let the car shift. I did shift back and forth from 3 to 4 in town until I put in the 3.73s, then it was not needed. :)

The stock A4 is one of my major bitches about the C5. It needs help. The 2-3 delay is normal but too long. A Transgo kit and LS1-Edit will help. It is best to adjust shift points and let the tranny shift automatically.
