Default Active Handling

I have a 2000 coupe with the active handling package. I am able to turn off both traction control and active handling when I push the button on the consol. I have not been able to get the "competition mode" I have held the button down for more than 5 seconds, in park, after a complete stop in drive, and even while driving. No luck - it will only turn everything on or off. What am I doing wrong?

Welcome to CF, first of all. I have an '03 and the way I turn my Cmpt. driving mode on is:
1. Turn act. hndling off.
2. Then press the button to turn back on, continue holding it down for about 5 seconds after it turns back on.
Hope this helps

Hmmm interesting.
I know that the gen 1 had to be at a stop to get to comp mode.
Gen 2 (2001 and up) you can do it while moving.
Seeing as yours is a 2000 perhaps the AH system for some reason "thinks" the car is moving?
That would give you the results you are seeing.

Where you push the button does it say "active handling" if not I don't think you have it.

He said he had it but just to make sure.
Active handling will have option code JL4 in the glove box.
"Active Handling" under the button on the console.
When you press the button it will say AH/TC off or something like that on the DIC, not just traction control off.

I don't have an auto but if I come to a stop, push in the clutch, hold the brake, and push the AH button down it will say Active Handling Off. If you hold the button down for 7 seconds, it will switch to Competition Mode. To get the words out of the DIC, push on reset.

Also, I think that you said you put it in Park. Have you tried putting it on while it was still in Drive with the foot brake on? I'm not sure the computer would know why you were trying to put it in Competition Mode while in Park...because you could always then shift to reverse, turn the key off, etc. I would imagine that you have to have the car in a forward drive gear before it would activate.

Hope you figure it out.

You need to be completely stopped, in drive, and then then push and hold the button for seven seconds. See the Owner's Manual for details on your car.

You have to be COMPLETELY stopped. And it is more like 10 seconds on mine even though the manual says something like 5. Also make sure you actually have active handling. It will say so next to the button. Other cars just say traction control.

I got it thanks. I was trying to do in "park", I did it after a complete stop and foot on brake.
