Rule of thumb everyone uses is 15% on six speeds and 20% on A4's--if yours is six speed your 385 should convert to 327rwhp, A4 (auto) 308rwhp--the stock unit is about 350 at the flywheel--you can air a blackwing and couple of small items to get to 385--you say you built your engine are you sure you didn't build it more for 385 at the wheels?

Most folks on the Forum board talk in terms of rear-wheel horsepower and torque, as measured by a dynometer, usually to the SAE standard. Although there are variations between dynos, the results are close enough for comparative purposes.

I'm not aware on any publish, accepted standard for converting measured rear-wheel numbers to flywheel numbers.

The rule-of-thumb used on C5 is 15% loss in the M6/M12 trannies and 20% for an A4 tranny. I don't know the figures for your C4. Perhaps a post on the C4 board?
