Went to the Corvette Challenge in Bradenton today, and met some of the posters here. I was amazed at how friendly everyone was. :) Heck, I was even walked through the restristration process (thanks Dan? bad with names, sorry :() and even was lent a Helmet since I'm a slacker (thanks Tracy).
Anyway, I've never raced before, nor had my car dyno'd or whatnot. Anyway, I see many times people that just change an intake and throw on a new catback system and show their low 12 times. I couldn't break into the 12s.
Would like some feedback on why my car seems so slow with my mods compared to others.
Now, I've read stock Automatics run 13.5~13.8, so I'm doing good on this aspect, but I seem to be way behind with my mods:
Stainless Works Headers
High-Flo Cats (forget brand)
Borla Stingers
3.73 Read-End
K&N Filter & Swiss Cheesed stock Air Box
160 Stat
Predator Tune
I realize I could get a much better time/speed with a TC & Non-Runflats, but as mentioned earlier, I've seen people claim low 12's with only Catbacks and Filter.
Does this mean I got one of those "Monday" engines? Or is this normal? It was low-mid 80's and I never spun the tires. Any input will be appretiated. Thanks! (And thanks again to all the wonderful people I met in Bradenton!) :D
Hopefully next month i'll get to meet you. Missed the race today due to illness:mad Anyway those times are respectable for your first race. :yesnod: Once you get a few runs under your belt 12's will be the norm. Bob
You just need some more seat time and i bet you'll break into the 12s easy with your set up. I'm going to be hitting the track for the first time this summer i got a MN6 and hope i can hit high 12s after a few passes.
Hey- just lookin at your times. My 99 hardtop ran a best of 8.189 in the 1/8 mi with similar mods. I didn't have headers, but did have a vararam. I also had a 1.9x 60ft on that run. My mph was 89.xx Have you had it tuned? The headers may be causing your A/F mixture to be off. I would think you should be a little faster with those mods. Maybe someone with a little more experience with your setup can be more helpful. Scott
Your car should be running alot faster than it is. I don't know if my car is a factory "freak" or not but it has 94,000 miles and my first time at the track two weeks ago i ran a best time of 13.000 at 108 mph BONE STOCK with street tires (97 C5 auto). Get your car re-tuned and see what you can do. I would expect you to be around a 12.7 or so. I am not trying to say you can't drive but you may need more pratice before your time will improve. When I was at the track I saw a guy with a 2001 C5 and he ran a 14.2 , he admitted he needed to pratice. Hopefully a little pratice will improve your time but otherwise you may want to see if your transmission is slipping or something else is not up to par.(fuel filter, clogged injectors, ETC..)
DOG :boxing DOG :boxing Look at my sig. bone stock and consistant 13.9x with 2.xx 60ft times. I would check your afr at wot along with the previously mentioned suggestion. BTW great mph that are indicative of a high 12.I was at 12.90 with similar mph. Do you have a 2.73 dog gear
Monday engine :boxing :boxing Monday engine :boxing :boxing They must have forced someone to work on New Years when mines was built      :beatdeadhorse: :beatdeadhorse:
Your times are fine.. considering you are a somewhat inexperienced racer.. with practice you are going to knock off 1 or 2 tenths with your launch technique.. and maybe another 2 tenths with some track experience.. its going to take a dozen runs to get it right.. so with expereince.. a 12.6 or 7 will look a lot better to you..
I guess I'm kind of confused about the whole experience thing. Is the reaction time part of the total time?? I was under the imperssion your time didn't start until the car moved?
If the time doesn't start until the car starts moving - I can't see how experience will help, as I just kept the pedal buried the whole time. heh :) No wheel spin on shifts.
Is it safe to assume my engine is fine with those numbers, even with all the mods? (Yea, it is an A4 with 3.73's)
As for the fuel/air mixture, I'm thinking of meeting a local with LS1 Edit, and I'll mention that to him. I was just under the impression that with $4/5k I'd atleast hit 12's heh
For someone who has never raced, your reaction time and 60fts look ok.
Get a dyno tune and see what happens. I could be wrong, but I think your car has a lot more in it.
Oyea- I think your 60 ft times are decent. Sure u could drop a tenth or 2, but I had the same 60 foot time & 3 more mph with no headers/hi flo cats. I'd say u definately need a tune, but I don't have the experience to say for sure. Reacton time has nothing to do with your ET. I don't think it's your motor, just needs some tweeking! I would think it should run .4 - .5 quicker when running like it should. Scott
He's got a predator..why not just lean it out? BTW I ran 13.09@108 stock with my 2001 A4 w/ 2.73's............ Same 60' times. So you're definately giving up alot there.

Try pressing the brake and the gas(at the same time) *right before you launch*....it is almost like staging. This will give you a better jump off the line. Just make sure you have the brake pressed down FIRMLY or you will get the "redlight". This technique does take some pratice but when you get it down, you will notice a gain over "just burying the pedal". Do not "stage" too long so you don't cause excessive damage to your transmission.
