got an on-going problem that has gotten worse. either electrical or computer based, i think. symptoms are the gas, battery, oil pressure gauges go to zero; temp gauge max's out; security, abs, airbag, seatbelt lights come on; computer says "low fuel" "service traction control system" "service active handling system" "check gauges" "reduced engine power" -- sometimes all these things at once; sometimes one, two, or three at a time...
when they all go at once, "reduced engine power" is for real...
dealer has had the car twice -- first time for a week; second time since thursday.
when i drove it in there thursday night, it was acting like we were in the bermuda triangle -- so the service guys got a good look at the problem. even after they turned the car off and on again, the alarms didn't disappear...
"pull the codes" -- y'know, i asked them if the computers in the car wouldn't tell them what's going on. is that what this term means? i'm not convinced the service guys are that knowledgeable about the z06 -- in fact, they've told me as much -- so anything i can learn and pass on to them can't hurt!
should the computers be able to determine where the problem is? or do they isolate it at all?
The Z06 is really no different than the regular C5 with respect to diagnostics. Usually, when a problem occurs a record of that problem is stored in the computer in the form of a trouble code. The code can be retrieved using the DIC center on the car or by a special tool that the dealer has. But if it is what I suspect (a loose, bad or otherwise disconnected ground strap - or even a bad cell in a battery) it may not have a code to store.
If you are not confident in the abiltiy of the mechanics, I would not hesitate to get the car to someone who is better - Even if I had to take it up to Gaithersberg to Chriswell to make sure an expert works on it.
It may be the right side door control module. I've seen the same problems exhibited when that module was going out. Everytime the passenger door was slammed, the same symptoms would occur. Might try it real quick to possibly eliminate that!
With throwing all those codes/warnings, I would check battery for leaking. It is an AGM or regular battery. If regular check not only bottom of battery but also battery cables (acid often flows down them).
