6-speed manual question
Hey gang,
My 99 coupe 6-speed will not downshift from 6th to 5th as I'm coming off of the highway. Seems like it is locked out of 5th. However, I can downshift into 4th and then go into 5th. What is going on with the tranny? Help. Thanks.

I had that happen in my first Camaro with a T56, it was a Synchro in the transmission.

As far as I know, 5th and 6th are not timed gears, hence no synchs. But if you can't even double clutch into it, somethings wrong.

I had a problem with it grinding off and on in 5th gear so I took it to the dealer and they took it apart and said that it was the synchros. I don't know that much about it but whatever they did, it rixed the problem.

It's your 5 gear syncros. It's a common problem with them. A good transmission shop should beable to fix and upgrade the syncro rings to keep it from happening again.
