I am converting the front of my C4's brakes to C5s, and I dont know which pads to get. I am looking at Hawk HPS, Raybestos QS Ceramic, stock pads and durastop ceramics. I am going to be using stock C5 rotors. I have heard been reading that ceramic brakes do not give the performance as nonceramic ones. I am looking for fairly quiet high performance pads that will be ran on the street and rarely on the track. I want as much bite as possible without wearing my rotors/pads too fast. I really dont care about dusting as long as it is not excessive. I just dont want to spend a lot of money upgrading my brakes to buy pads that dont "bite". So which pads will give me the best of everything? thanks
I just bought the GM ceramics but have not yet installed them. I have read that they work fine on the street, but under aggressive use they will fade. One advantage to the GM pads, especially for you if installing new equipment, is they come with the shims and the metal installation tabs that you may not have doing a refit to a C4. I don't think that the Hawks come with these components, and as a result, you may need to find these elsewhere. Something to consider anyway, good luck with your installation.

Raybestos QS come with all these components as well. and are cheaper than the Delco ceramics, rumor has it Raybestos makes them for Delco.... rockauto has super prices :yesnod:

Unfortunately, none. Everything is a trade-off. The ceramics are great for the street, quiet and dust free, but they are useless on the track. As others stated they will fade, but I once saw a guy try and use them on a road course and after 2 sessions they had big chunks missing out of them! For what you're looking for, I'd probably suggest stock Z06 pads. A bit dusty, but it comes off easily enough. Use some kind of anti-squeal goop when you install them and they should be fairly quiet. :D

I use the stock Z06 pads front and rear on my 2002 Coupe (get them from gmpartsdirect.com). Just replaced the rears, so not too much experience with them, but ran front pads at a couple of track days last year and they stopped great, didn't wear excessively, but they do dust more than ceramics would. I'm thinking of maybe going with ceramics to use between track events, though.
