Re: WTF just Happened? Tranny/Shifting Problems... (Kenny94945)
i am one step ahead (well kinda) I just ripped the whole center console out and took the shifter out (just in case it has to go in for warranty i will throw the stock shifter back in.
It all seems fine up there but there is a banging noise when i move the shifter to the left?...
I will have to jack it up tomorrow and get a better look - but i am not liking the sound of it.
Re: WTF just Happened? Tranny/Shifting Problems... (SmoothFRC)
Sounds like the shifter rod has disconnected. Is the shift rod connected to the shifter box? There is a small rod that exits the shifter box and that is connected to the shifter rod with a clamp bolt. It either is disconnected at the shifter box or at the tranny. At least that what is sounds like.
Re: WTF just Happened? Tranny/Shifting Problems... (SmoothFRC)
the rear linkage isheld together with a rolled pin, if you pull the rubber dust shield out of the way you may be able to access it, i have never tried it that way so you may have to pull the whole f@#%ng torque tube
Re: WTF just Happened? Tranny/Shifting Problems... (SmoothFRC)
The transmission shift rod that runs between the shifter and the transmission shift shaft is connected to the transmission shift shaft using a rolled pin. If you remove the shifter then you should be able to move the transmission shift rod forwards and backwards and feel if it is connected to transmission shift shaft. Most likely the rolled pin has not sheared off or fallen out and the trouble is inside the transmission.
Regardless of whether the trouble is from the shift rod being disconnected from the transmission or internal problems with the transmission, you will have to drop the transmission to fix it.
Re: WTF just Happened? Tranny/Shifting Problems... (SmoothFRC)
I had a similar problem, only with the A4. I had shifted down to 1st, and when I shifted up to 2nd, trans stayed in 1st. Shifter just flopped around between D and 1st. My problem was broken cable between shifter and transmission. Hope your problem is with the linkage also. The cable for the auto was $70 and it took me a couple of hours to replace.
