Default 2001 Rear End Leaking ?

I have a 2001 Coupe. I have had it to the dealership twice for the same repair. The rear end leaks fluid. The first repair they "resealed the differential cover. The second repair states that the left side differential cover leaked and they replace it. It is still leaking, any clues?

A search will bring MANY posts on this topic! The bottom line is that if your diff is truely leaking, a seal replacement by itself may not work. Now the routine is to also use an anaerobic sealer on the case/plate joint too. Ask your dealer if they used this special sealer. :yesnod: :) I would also suggest that you clean the area and track down the real location of the "leak." It might be coming from the vent, due to over-fill of the diff, or to "spirited" driving..... :D

There is a revised seal design for the halfshafts. Clean the diff and check to see if the leak is coming from the halfshaft areas, It's possible you need the revised seal. The revised seals have three lips instead of two.

Thanks. I used to live in Tucson. In fact my first Corvette club membership was in Tucson at O'Riely Chevrolet in 1981. I moved in 1988. I used to be friendly with Jim Dowdy or Dougherty, ( ?? ) He did some great work on a 73 Big Block I had restored. Do you know him. Is he still around? Thanks

Hi! (again) The Tucson club is still going strong and a new Southern Arizona Corvettes Club has started and already has 156 members! I don't know Jim, but there are some very talented folks here. Hope you get that diff fixed; it is a PITA and should never have been allowed to go on this long, as GM knew about the problem from the very beginning! :mad :cuss
