Default calling all stroker cars... help!

I want to do a stroker. The 383 would use the aluminum block and the 408 would use a steel block. I can get quite a bit more power from the 408 (500rwhp/500rwtq).

My concern is will I feel much difference in the way the C5 handles with an iron block (+ 80lbs)? If not, I sure would like to have the 408.

Can some of you who have the steel block help me out here?

Why would you use a steel block? The only advantage would be for stength if you planned on running a large amount of spray. You can get the a sleaved block and get bigger bores

The reason I am looking at these 2 sizes is price. I can get either for about $3k (new). AND I don't have to worry about sleeves. I want a dependable high HP car.

Are you running an iron block?

I understand his reasoning 100% as a darn affordable big cubed bad boy LS6 408 motor can be put together for a much more affordable price!!! I ran an iron 427 last year in my 98 C5 b/f going with the C5R block and the extra weight did not affect the handling of my car and one of my buddies has an iron 422 and he has told me the same thing. I would certainly go with the iron 408 if my only other choice was the alum. 383 LS1 stroker as there is no replacement for displacment not to mention you can throw N20 at the motor also as it will be plenty strong!!! :chevy

OF COURSE, if $ were not an issue and you could afford an alum. darton sleeved 427 super stroker then i would prefer the bigger cubed motor to be alum. but it seems like you are trying to build a budget minded big cubed LS1/6 motor and if that's the case and you are working within a certain budget then i say go for it and ENJOY!!!
