Default Problem?! Passenger side window won't roll down!

I bought my car a month or so ago and the passenger side window has never rolled down. I took the door panel off yesterday to no success, I know its still getting power because i could feel the motor getting hot.

Has anyone else had this problem? How can I fix it?

anything will help, thanks

The motor for the window needs replaced. It's a common problem with the vette. The little gears are plastic so they wear down pretty easy if they are not built right.

Try this, it's worked on mine and a friend's also. Remove door panel and bang on motor w/ vice grips or some other heavy tool while holding the down button down. Of course, key must be on. The window jams from lack of use. The jolting seems to get it going again. Good luck.

Sounds like the window motor needs replacing... If the window didnt go down and all of your gauges were reading "0" even if the engine was running... then I would say the problem would be the window sensor. (yes that is true)

VR

Common problem on the passenger side since the window doesn't get much use and something in the motor gets cruddy. I hope you still have some warranty left.

I dont have any warranty left, I guess i'll bang on it with a vicegrip before I buy a new motor. Where would be the best place to get a new motor?

I had the same problem last year in my 97. I took the panel off, put the tip of a large screwdriver on the motor and hit the other end with a small hammer while a friend held the button down, worked. I now put the window up and down once a week, haven't had a problem since.

whoooaaa! hold off on banging the unit! Try the easy approach. press the down button many times. im talking alot of times. just press away.

it should work again after some persistent tries. this is a known problem on vettes but its because the switch loses connection if there is no use for a long time. by tapping it you literally wake it up a little.

I hear you all!!! These motors are low tech! They have brushes and they freeze up on the armature when they are not used for short periods of time. They need to be turned to fresh metal to make contact. Just use them and you will have no problems.

Both my window regulators have failed and the car is less than two years old.
You can also try slamming the door while holding the window button down. Sometimes that is enough to jar the motor and get it working again without removing the entire door panel.
