hi i am thinking about getting the MAF for my car and was wondering if they where good and if anyone had one and could tell me the power gains.. also if u know of any other good MAfs let me know thanks
From every review and post on this and other forums I can suggest the following:
1) You give me the $200+ you would have spent on the Granatelli MAF
2) I will tell you that you gained 10+ HP
3) You drive away with that "I've made my ride faster" feeling and you won't have any driveability issues due to the fact that the Granatelli MAF is junk.
any aftermarket MAF is a waste of money. may even reduce your HP output. They try to trick the computer that more air is coming in, thus adding more fuel. its a terrible way of trying to get a supposed 10 hp
I had one on my car and went to dyno. I had 337 rwhp. I changed to the stock maf and the very next run, (about 10 mins later) recorded 347.3rwhp. Needless to say, I left the stock maf on since. That was MY experience with it, on MY car. Some have used it and measured gains. I really believe the gains, positive or negative are determined by the car. I had headers, an LS6 manifold, and a vararam. If you use it on a bone stock motor it may net you some gains. I would purchase it if I was planning on keeping the car bone stock for a while. Actually the Granatelli MAF (if bought new is around $300, so if your car is bone stock and you want to pick up a quick 10hp for sure for around $300, I would by and install a Blackwing, cold air screens, and a performance(?) hood seal. Just my $.02. :)
You'll probably get near 100% agreement a good intake like the Blackwing or comparable will get you the most bang for the buck. I've never tried the MAF, but have sure read a lot of posts to 'stay away' (and to be fair, some who swear by it). Not a sure thing IMHO though.
It was one of the first mods on my 2000 FRC. The Granatelli MAF plus dual K&N filters showed a 14 HP increase on my stock LS1 engine.
I have heard lots of fokes say "junk" with no indication they have any first hand knowledge or HP measurements to support their statements. Someone above on the thread indicates they have actual HP evidence. This is a first. :D

Jim
Jim, I was not knocking the Granatelli. I was stating my experience with it. I bought an hour of dyno time and went and played with my intake components and was surprised at what I found out. And I have the dyno graphs to prove it. How did you determine a 14hp increase?
Afterwards I thought about what my case was: I had headers, high-flow RT cats, a huge xpipe, a low backpressure exhaust, a Vararam, and an LS6 intake, and a ported and polished throttle body. The Granatelli is not designed to know about all these other bolt-ons. It assumes stock intake and exhaust in it's programming. Therefore it was doing what it was designed to do but trying to do it on a car that had very different breathing characteristics than stock.
In not trying to hijack this thread, I will maintain that to keep the stock MAF and install a Blackwing, cold air screens, and a performance hood seal will get more cold air into the engine and probably net +20hp. :D
