shifter knob disaster!

shifter **** disaster!
ok,i went to swap over my shifter ****,when i went to pull the wedge out,it broke.anybody got any ideas on how to get it out.mind you i had this apart a week ago with out any problems.
thanks guys,i did the old drill a hole and sheet metal screw theory and the dam wedge popped right out[not 1 curse word used].you just can't make this up!

I would try to drill it out. It just slides into a groove in the shifter and gets wedged in there. Use a small bit to start and enlarge it slowly to avoid damaging the shaft.

That sucks! Are you getting rid of the **** that is on there now? If WORSE comes to WORSE, you could cut off the old **** to get access to the slot on the back side of the shifter shaft (say that fast five times) then get the darn key out

If you really need it off, you could use a hack saw and slowly cut down the side of the ****. I would cut down both sides and then you can tap out the pin. Go slow and dont mess up the threads on the shaft. I would not cut all of the way to the shaft, just far enough to get a flat blade in the side and split it open.
