Anyone ever have a problem with their front leaf spring being cracked. Here is the story. I just installed my new polished CCW wheels 18x12(335-30-18's) out back and 18x10(265-35-18's) up front. No tubbing by the way....:smash: :smash: :smash: Well after putting on the wheels I realized what the 4x4ing look is all about..... Yuck.....:U
Dropped the rear no problem, now go to look at the front when I notice that my front spring looks like it is cracked in half long ways in a few places!! I was like WTF!!! Car is still under warranty, so I will have it looked at. Just curios if anyone else has had any trouble with this. Maybe I can get some Z-06 springs if I do some sweet talking to the techs. Good thing for me my car always seemed a bit lower in the front the normal c5's so I did not even have to drop it at all. Wheel wells match perfect. Dropped the rear about 1.5 inches or so. I bought it new so I know it was not dropped in the front by someone else. I think one of the people in the Corvette plant got a little carried away with the air ratchet when my car was being built.
Springs have been know to delaminate. A common cause is using a caustic agent to clean the engine. Also you could have struck something in the road that damaged the spring. I would not drive it until this is repaired.
The funny thing is I have never use anything else on my c5 except for regular old car wash soap on both my engine bay as well as my rims. Oh well the heck with it. I'll make an appointment with Mr. Goodwrench, YIPPY!! I get to listen to him say that my wheels, intake, exhaust, exhaust plate, red corvette letters, lowering, act of God, or general driving style caused this..... I can't wait to hear what he blames it on this time. Maybe I'll blame it on him and say it must be the freakin' quart of oil every 1,000 miles I burn. Sorry just a little bitter..... :nonod:
I had to replace my front spring at about 75K on my car. The oil seal behind the crank pulley was leaking, and oil on the leaf spring finally caused it to start delaminating. I took the opportunity to replace it with Z06 springs.
My front spring started to delaminate (splinter) about 6 months ago. I trimmed off the splinters and it has not progresses any further since. I am going to replace it with ZO6 springs sometime. I took it to the dealer and they said it was due to the car being lowered and would not replace it. So you might raise it back up some before going in.
Good Luck
