Default Problem installing Goodridge SS brake lines

I put Goodridge SS brake lines on my 97 tonight and I'm having a problem with the front right line. I'm using the Motive brake bleeder to pressurize the system for bleeding (~10psi). Whenever I do this, I get an extremely slow leak from where the SS line mates to the hard line. Although it's miniscule, I assume any leakage at all is inappropriate. It's coming out the top of the flared line compression fitting. The connection is tight, any tighter and I fear stripping the fitting. The other 3 lines were just as tight and no leaks. Anyone else ever had this problem? Am I supposed to be using somekind of thread sealant or locktite on the fitting? :cuss

You shouldnt need to use anything on the threads but to tighten them up.... you have a bad line there... go get a replacement and you will be good to go.

Bogus. I'm racing at RoadAmerica this weekend and don't have time to order more parts. Would it be bad to run with a stock rubber line on that one corner? Or would it screw up the brake proportioning and make one side brake harder than the other? (It's the front right) :mad

Did you concider putting the rubber lines on the back and the SS lines on the front? The rear brakes take a lot less punishment at Road America. (Unless you changed the brake bias.)

So tonight I fiddled with the SS line but couldn't get it to stop leaking. I pulled it off, and reinstalled a stock rubber one. I'll be damned, it was still leaking in the same spot. So I cranked down the fitting really hard, much harder than I needed to tighten the other 3, so tight I was scared of busting the fitting. It didn't leak. Then being the complete dumbbutt that I am, I thought, "hmmm, if cranking it down really really hard worked on the rubber line, maybe it would work on the SS line too." So I undid everything I just spent an hour tinkering with, and put the SS line back on. Cranked it down like crazy, and voila - no leak. I'm confused as to why that one fitting required such an extreme torque compared to the others in order to avoid leaking. The threads on the SS line appear fine, and the flared fitting and hard line on the car appear fine. This is stripped, nothing is bent. Kind of odd. Anyways, it's all working now and I'm packed, ready to roll to Road America tomorrow evening!
Took the car for a spin to embed the new Carbotech Panther Plus pads, I definitely felt a big difference over the stock pads / rubber lines. And I didn't even brake very hard, just enough to heat them up and embed the pads into the rotors. After I parked it to let the brakes cool off, I went by the wheel well and could feel the heat radiating from the wells... crazy! I think these pads will be great on the track.

I found to use the Goodridge lines I had to use the orgincal fittings. The Goodridge fittings were too short and leaked.

If I change them or put some on another car I will use Earl's Performance Plumbing SS lines.

should have driven around a while to let most of the heat out of the rotors , heat soaked rotors can warp ...been there.... :leaving:

I was just following the embedding instructions that were in the brake pads box. 6 slows from 60mph to 40mph, and then 4 firm stops from 40mph to 0mph. Get pads "hot, but not smoking." Park for 30 minutes and let cool.

You think I did something wrong by following those directions?
