About popping and backfiring..
With the addition of my headers has come a few added "factors"- namely an increase in the decell burble. It's so bad that when the car is cold (just started) it tends to backfire when I let off the gas after part throttle acceleration. Once the engine gets warm, the backfires are a lot less often, but they still happen...
And ideas? Is this something that I can have tuned out? Or is this just S.O.P.?
You have an exhaust leak, recheck all of your connections and make sure they are tight also, what kind of manifold gaskets did you use I hope they weren't the paper ones.
You had the install done at LG if I remember your posts correctly...is this a new condition or was it happening right after the install? I have not experienced anything like this and I do not have it tuned yet.

Re: About popping and backfiring.. (sweetcharity)
Yes, I just got some LG LT headers installed. It happened a little after the install, but it seems to have gotten worse recently. Maybe after the pipes heat cycled a few times...
I tend to agree on the exhaust leak- I notice a slight "whoosh" sound when I let of the throttle... Kinda like a BOV.
I've seen some of them leak around the little "cut" in the end of the pipes for compression- is there anything I can use to "fill" that in or do I have to unbolt everything and adjust it? If the leak is all the way up by the header, I'll have to unbolt the whole thing.

I love customer service-LG comes through! Lou offered to take a look at it the next time I'm in town to check for leaks. Excellent! It's not huge deal, but it's nice to see a tuner going out of his way to help. Thanks Lou!
David,
I have FLP's and GHL's on my 2001 LS1 MN6 and have the same gurgling and popping on decel with occaisional backfire when cold. Sounds like the same results you are getting. No exhaust leaks that I can find and mine has not been tuned. Previous posts, last year I think, explained why LS1's are prone to this. Oh well, I've kinda grown to like it.
I had LG longtubes installed and I was getting loud pops on deceleration right after the install. On a later trip to the installer I asked them to double check for leaks. They said they couldn't find any. However the loud popping seems to have gone away. I assume either there was a minor leak that has sealed or there was some engine learning process that took place after the install that slightly changed the tune?

Thanks Alan... I'm going to have LG check them out next weekend just to be sure... Can't hurt and hey- he offered! :D
Now if I can just get out of there without buying anything ELSE... :leaving:
I had a slight decel popping with the Borla Stinger, then when the Pro LG LT ORs were added the popping was not as noticeable. Now, since the G5X-3 cam & Vig2800 the decel popping is gone, honest. Can anyone explain that? I mean I gained 45RWHP & no more decel popping. :D
