What is the difference between the stinger R and the stinger. I saw an earlier post stating stinger R but don't see it at the corvetteC5 web page. Thanks,
Jim, I am patiently waiting for my new Stinger intake fo my 2000 corvette coupe. I have only heard great things about you and your company. Congratulations on your success!!. I see that the filters will not be in in until the end of next week. I was hoping to have mine by then as I am taking the Vette on a small vacation that weekend and was hoping to try out the new intake. Can you please tell me if there is any shipping and handling charges ot taxes for the intake so I will know what to expect on my bill. Thanks and God bless, Paul J. Barefoot - order #486 :flag
Recieved and Installed my Stinger today, throttle feels a little more responsive and it seems to pull a bit harder, all subjective but thats
how it feels :)
What kind of actual gains do these produce, I would sell my vortex and buy the stinger if it produces better gains. Has anybody switched and could you feel a difference. Thanks
UPDATE: Order 467 (13 April) shipped yesterday (21 April 04)!! Thanks to Dave68 for the great detailed install directions! Really nice job for us "non-mechanics"!! :smash: :smash: :smash:
Thanks to Dave68 for the great detailed install directions!
I'll second that! Thanks for the directions Dave68. Have not received mine yet, Halltech is not the fastest with orders, matter of fact, unbelievably slow! Looking forward to getting it though and using your guidelines Dave.
Thanks JC and Sixgun. Mojo, I will have results on May 22nd after Dyno Day. My other Stingers (Borla) may also contribute a bit, but I feel the two Stingers deserve each other - great combination!
If anyone else has his (or her) car dynoed before I do, please post your results.
I'd like to get your detailed instructions. I waiting for my stinger. I had thought installation would be easy but seeing all these emails I'm having second thoughts about difficulty.
Thanks
David
If anyone would like detailed (with plenty of pics) instructions, just let me know. I creatd a Word document that goes into more detail than Jim's quick-instructions. I've been trying to upload the pics so I could post the instructions here, but due to a problem with this forum, it's no-can-do. However, I'll try often and if the upload feature is fixed, I will post instructions and pics.
Received my Stinger on Wednesday, installed after work yesterday. Only problem encountered was installing MAF on the intake tube. :banghead: Everything else after that was a piece of cake. Seems to have more pep at launch, likely because it is breathing easier.

The MAF is a SOB, but we wanted to make sure there were no leaks, EVER. The Windex spray is essential to getting it inserted.
We have a very good set of instructions for the TRAP intake that shows that part of the install on our site, http://www.CorvetteC5.com under Installation Video. The TRAP has the same upper Tunnel Bridge as the Stinger.
I have a funny story here. Last night I reverted back to the stock system for 2 reasons: 1) the hood was sticking up a bit at the nose, and 2) it is going to the shop on Monday. So I thought I would make sure the hood stuck up without the Stinger (and it did, with no air intake at all, so it is an alignment issue), and also make sure the dealer had zero items for blame.
It actually took me longer to get the stock one back on than it did for the stinger. First, if you think getting the MAF into the Stinger tube is hard, just wait until you have to remove it... It will not come out without major cursing or coaxing. Then the rubber grommet on the stock airbox fell down into the nose of the car, and I had to fish my hand around from the top and bottom to locate it. What a pain....
The hood sticking up a bit according to Teamspeed after the install. Has anyone else experienced this? I know its a tight fit but that just won't cut it.
Disregard all above! Just reread the previous post..OK I can't read! Sorry!
Just a quick response. This Tunnel Bridge is the same design that we developed 4 1/2 years ago and the hood liner indetent is there from the factory. We utilize all the space left over from the factory, but the hood does not lift with our bridge.
This unit was tested by GM two years ago, and coincidentally is now found on the new C6, so I guess the unit that went back to Detroit on Dave Howlett's 2003 Z06 was acceptable to their design team.
I suppose it could be coincidence, but look at the newly designed air-bridge on the C6 and you will see a replica of our Tunnel Bridge only installed backwards, since the MAF now sits directly in front of the throttle body.
We have over 3000 of our units on C5s, with no problems.

The hardest part for me was removing the MAF from the stock airbridge. You really have to wiggle and pull for a while to get it to come loose. However, consider what happens if the two components are not sealed perfectly - dirty, unfiltered air can get pulled into your engine, especially if you have provided access for outside air to enter the engine bay (removing fog light panels, or cutting the radiator shroud).
Here's a thought: GM's moving the MAF is certainly better for preventing air filter oil from coating the MAF sensor wires. Why can't we reposition our MAFs in a similar manner?
Perhaps I was not clear in my post, I thought it was possibly the Stinger, but then I took EVERYTHING off, no stock intake, no Stinger, it still stuck up a little bit, so my hood is misaligned. The stinger fits just fine under the hood, and looks good to boot! I like it, if only the filter was red too (cough, cough like the K&N)... ;)
