Have an 01 Corvette that the fuel pressure will drop from 50 down to 40 PSI when under hard acceleration. Won't always do it the first time you hit it. May take 2 or 3 times but it always drops. When it drops you feel the KR coming in and retarding the spark-which is verified on an Ease system.
So far-have put in two new fuel pumps, replaced the fuel filter twice and the regulator on the fuel rail has been replaced. The tank has been drained and fresh gas put in it. The car has 21.000 miles on it. The new parts have benen installed in the last 100 miles and still getting the problem. The fuel pressure guage is a Stewart Warner and had been replaced also. No change.
Any ideas?
Car has 3:42 gears, Yank SS3200 Converter, Vararam and Superchips tuner. It is an AR transmission. These items had been running fine in car and then after about a month the fuel pressure problem reared it's ugly head.
Appreciate your help.
Re: FUEL PRESSURE DROPS-NEED HELP (Motorsportsline)
Are you sure it runs at 50psi. It should be closer to 58psi static.
You might also want to try this:
Put in a relay and run a thick supply wire directly from the alternator. The stock wiring is a little too small (although it usually works on stock and moderatly modded cars)
Re: FUEL PRESSURE DROPS-NEED HELP (Motorsportsline)
Since you have an '01, that pot on your fuel rail is a pulsation damper, not the fuel pressure regulator. The fuel pressure regulator on your car is located inside your fuel filter. You can verify this for yourself by noting that there are two lines connecting your fuel filter to your gas tank. One of these is your return line. This system is less capable of maintaining correct fuel pressure, under high demand, at the fuel rails. This is due to pressure loses in the fuel line between the fuel filter/pressure regulator and the fuel rails. The regulator does not sense pressure drops at the rails due to its distance from the rails. The '97/'98's had a return line to the rails along with a fuel pressure regulator at the rails. This was dropped due to new emission requirements not being able to be met by the full return system. You will see many forum members with'99-up vettes looking for early fuel line systems.
