When installing new plugs does it cause any problems if you leave the
metal shields off. It seems that the springs in the shields would tend
to push the boot off of the plug if it had a loose fit. I assume that the
shields are there for RF suppression not for ignition performance but
I could be wrong.
I think those are heat shields, and you should keep them on there, or go with a 3rd party product called Kool-Socks (I think thats what they are called)
Also used for static suppression shields for the sound system. I removed mine when changine plugs and wires, and immediately started getting static on weak stations. Re-installed, and static went away.
IMHO you can go with out them. I ran my stock wires with the Stainless Works LT headers and there was ample clearance. I now have Taylor racewires without Socks or Shields and better clearance and looks.
