Default Long Term Storage

I will be storing my corvettes for 3 years soon. Can anyone give me advice on how to prepare them for long term storage. Thanks, I am in the military and don't really have much choice on the storage decision, but I hope that my vettes will still be like new when I return if stored properly. Hank

Here is some info to get you started. There will likely be contorversy.

Full tank of gas so water dosen't get in the tanks while in storage. Some fuel stabilizer will help but this is to reduce degradation of the fuel not to keep out water.

Disconnect the battery.

Pour 1 teaspoon of motor oil in each of the cylinders through the spark plug hole.

Put a cover on it. (made this mistake once and a buddys dog really messed up my paint.

I would also consider putting it on jackstands and taking the air pressure off the tires. Some will definately argue about this, but I think it unloads the springs and keeps them from sagging. Taking the pressure off the tires will keep the rubber from being streached as much, less chance of cracks in the tread. Keeping them out of the sun will be the best thing for them.

Keep it sealed, you don't want something nesting in the interior while you are gone.

When you get it out of storage, new oil, new coolant, and repack the wheel bearings (because over time the grease will move to the bottom of the bearings.)

Them's my suggestions.
Oh, and as an aside :flag

I will add, remove the battery.....wax the car, traet the seat with good conditioner,, clean it well, make sure storage is DRY,, migh tnot hurt to spray the alum with corrosion inhibitor..in fact, if it was mine, I would consider selling and buying a better one when I return,, then you dont have to worry and will have a new one....

After you put oil in each cylinder, spin the engine on the starter, but don"t start it. You will probably need new spark plugs when you take it out of service.

that is not a bad idea.

from the sig, a 95 and an 03 are not really that special.

obviously the cars are paid for because you would never make payments on a car in storage.

with the cost of 3 years of storage (if any) on a couple of cars and especially the depreciation, you would definately be better off selling the cars now, conservitively invest the proceeds and buy back in three years.

if you buy the same cars you will buy back a lot cheaper or you can buy something new.

the key is buy low (future) and sell high (now).
