What would it take? I'm getting dad's car in the next few years (he's selling it for a new one and he's selling, yes selling, me his current car) and I plan on making it a 10 sec daily driver. I'd really like to not do forced induction if I don't have to (stroker kits are looking nice). I also don't want a roll bar. I hate the way they look (no offense to any one on here who has them on a vert) and I don't want them. They also give it away. Is it doable? I plan on doing 4.10's, LT's, catted x-pipe, big heads and cam. This thing has to stay 100% streeable and reliable. I want to be able to throw the top back and drive it 800 miles if I want to without any problems what-so-ever. I know this is like having my cake and eating it to but I'm picky. I'm very serious about this to. I want to get a list of parts together so I can start pricing and buying parts. Thanks for the help.
I'm not 100% sure, but don't you need a cage at least at a track if you break 11? I guess once you break it you've accomplished your goal, and don't need to go to the track anymore anyway.
The mods you list will get you there. :yesnod: I have an M6 '01 with heads/cam (includes long tubes, underdrive pulley, etc.) and 4.10s. With the added weight of my 6-point roll bar, I have gone 11.1@124 on drag radials in 70+ degree weather. Take the roll bar out and give me a little cooler air and there's a 10. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if I hit it with my current set up if I had some ET Streets.
My car also sees 112+ miles-per-day as it is my daily driver and gets 29-30 MPG on the highway. Streetable enough for ya? ;)
Cartek as well as others have C5s in the 10s with heads/cam "only"....get ready to spend about $15k and LEARN how to drive it, the difference between 11s and 10s is all in the launch if you have the power ;)
I don't plan on putting a cage in cause I only want to get that 10sec pass and be done with it and I don't see the need to put a cage in there if I'm only gonna make one or two runs.
The budget is unlimited. I want to do this once and do it right. Like I said, I have a few years to do this so I'm not worried about the money. And if I don't have everything by the time I get the car, so be it.
The One, it sounds like you've met and possibly exceeded my goal. I like to pick a goal that is just beyond what I think I can achieve.
Ok. Now what heads/cam/LT's do yall think I will need? MTI will be doing the tuning and possibly the install (depends on how ballsy I feel when I get everything in; I've done cam swaps before, never head though). I don't mind a little lope at idle on the cam. I actually want it. But I don't want the car to almost die at a light. A 100 or so rpm bounce is perfectly acceptable. I plan on revving to 6500. MAYBE 6700. Doubt it though.
Oh ya. And since I'll have all this power, I'm gonna need to find a way to harness it and slow it down. So clutch and brake upgrades are much needed as well. I was thinking a set of Brembo 6 pistons up front and 4 pistons in the rear (or something similiar, I've only had experience with brembo's so I'm a little biases).
easly doable given you have the budgette. Why not go with a 427 stroker, that'll get you there as welll. You will need tires and those will not be the best on the road, so you'll be doing some swapin or not driving it any kind of weather
All suggestions/opinions/facts are welcome. Please don't let this thread turn into a pissing match. I've gotten a lot of help from yall and I've recommended this forum to several people. And don't tell me that since I'm a kid that it can't be done and why should I be modding dad's car and blah blah blah. I don't want to hear it. Sorry for the little vent but I wanted to get that out of the way before hand.
I don't see where this was warranted based on the repsonses you got so far, it's this kinda stuff that will get you the repsonses you're trying to avoid, may want to rethink and edit that last part.
Ok I think I can help seeing I was in the same boat your in about six months ago.I have a vert w/M6 as well and I too went to MTI to have my work done but unfortunantly for me I'm on a budget.I have stage II heads w/their X-1 cam (most aggresive one they have)w/ all the bolt ons.I run mid 11's but I'm still learning how to drive the car.I am adding nitrous to get me in the 10's just to make sure I keep the dependabilty priority one.
You live in Texas so I wouldn't worry about getting kicked out of any track for not having a roll cage.I have been to several tracks and no one has even brought it up.
I will be going through Sugarland in a few weeks to head to MTI for nitrous I will IM you if you want to check out my car.
Blue....best advice you can get is from "The One", he has successfully done what you are asking and his car is a daily driver that brings fear to most who line up next to him at the dragstrip...

I would consider Cartek. The cars they produce are extremely streetable depite the great power. My friend Mark has a covertible 6 speed that has run low 11's many times and has cam only. With the heads he would be in the tens easily and thats with their 2x package. If possible try and drive a few cars with the various packages. If your up this way I know several cars that you can test drive including mine. Goodluck with your search and dont rush it. Do all your homework.
