Just got 350 miles on the car and i noticed that when i start off in first gear there is what sounds like a bad bearing rattle. very annoying to say the least. should i take it back and if so what do the cavalier/truck/blazer mechanics look for?
Re: what the hell is that noise?? (Dan_the_C5_Man)
Is there any way to reduce the rattle? It is frigging annoying. Has this been a common problem since the c-5 came out? if so GM should make a face like they are ashamed.

You can also stick a set of 4:11 gears in the rear end. With the reduction in effect to take off from a stand still.....you won't hear it. PLUS...your car will feel like the Sports Car it's suppose to be.
So i guess no one has an answer other than the funny comments, huh? i guess i have to live with it. Its too bad i didnt notice it before i took delivery. i would have saved $42000.
what else do u want out of us? its normal, deal with it or sell it. be glad you dont have the loud butt throwout bearing, that woulda driven you mad and Gm woulda told u thats normal too.
There's not a fix to the problem, but the cause of it is a consequence of the gear design of the T-56 transmission. The gears are a straighter cut than typical to improve the torque capacity of the tranny. Kinda like the old M22 "Rock Crusher" transmissions of the 60s, but obviously a lot quieter. You'll get used to it, trust me.
BTW, this problem exists in every T-56 installation: F-bodies (can't believe GM killed 'em off :cry :cuss :banghead: ), Vipers, and those C4s that have them.
