Re: best alignment specs. for a 2000 coupe ? (birch64)
Sorry, but you can't have the best of both worlds. The best alignment specs for everyday driving that won't wear your tires out like you have now aren't the same specs that provide the original handling and performance. Factory specs that provide original handling and performance will wear and cup the insides of the front tires during everyday driving.
Your first step is to determine which you want, good tire wear or original handling and performance. Original factory specs lean towards the handling and performance.
Re: best alignment specs. for a 2000 coupe ? (alanh)
i set my 01 to zo6 specs and saw a bit of improvement in handeling with no added tire were after about 6000 miles my next alignment i will go even more agressive, but without changing camber plates you really cant go that aggresive. great tires make a huge difference, ditch the run craps. I had pole position so3s on and now have the kds just got them on tonight. if money is not an issue look into different sways and diff shocks they will make a huge diff, much more than any aggresive alingment only will. I will soon be adding coil overs and different sways.

Original factory specs lean towards the handling and performance.
I think some of the earlier years suffered from that but I haven't seen it for quite some time? It used to be a fairly common complaint but not after model year 2000? At least it doesn't come up within our club anymore and there are a ton of C5s. I have a very late 2000 and have never had a problem.
Re: best alignment specs. for a 2000 coupe ? (birch64)
so rich, you're saying to set to Original factory specs ? later than 2000 year? or should i go with the 2002 z06 specs?
What do you want to do? Just street? Low speed autocross? Any roadcourse driving? The Z06 spec, usually, will show more wear on the inside of the tread but gives you more tread in the right place on high G turns.
What tires will you be buying?
If it is another set of GY runflats I wouldn't run anything other than stock alignment numbers as negative camber is not supposed to be good with such a stiff sidewall.
Re: best alignment specs. for a 2000 coupe ? (birch64)
You haven't said, but I'm assuming you want good tread wear, soif you don't want this set of GY's to end up looking like the first ones, you better go with this: Camber 0 degrees front and rear, error to the positive side on the front if not exactly 0, error to the negative side on thr rear if not exactly 0, try .1 drgree toein in the front and 0 to -.1 degree in the rear.
Re: best alignment specs. for a 2000 coupe ? (alanh)
Do what Alan said...I just had the stock GY runflats taken off and mine had 27K miles on them. They were worn on the inside edges with less than 1 degree of negative camber....Run them as close to 0 camber as possible. TOE causes cupping or feathering. If they feather or cup on the insides you need more toe in.
Re: best alignment specs. for a 2000 coupe ? (birch64)
Go to a performance alignment shop. Tell him how you drive and what you'd like. He'll make suggestions and optimize the settings for you. What ever you do, do not accept the stock tolerances from GM - they are way too wide.

Re: best alignment specs. for a 2000 coupe ? (birch64)
I specialize in alignments and Frames, I lowered my car as far as the factory bolts would allow 3/4" Fraon & 5/8" Rear, I set my Alignment to 3/4 * negative front and rear and set my Toe to 1/32 " of toe in Front & Rear. With that I can get great handling and decent tire wear. I will check what my 02' Z06 recomended settings are and reply. Good luck
Re: best alignment specs. for a 2000 coupe ? (Hefty)
Hefty.....remember he's running GY runflats...the negative camber you recommend will wear the insides of those tires. Runflats = zero camber....I should have taken pictures of mine.
I've been running 1/4 degree front, 1/2 degree back of camber on my runflats without adverse wear so far... (Just got it aligned and checked for adverse wear and the tires have been ok)

I don't think a 1/4 or 1/2 degree negative camber will make a difference as far as bearing problems but what I have been told is too much negative camber on runflats is hard on the wheel bearings as the runflat sidewalls are so stiff.
