I purchased a set of LG longtubes with Random Cats. I understand LG recommends the cats be placed behind the X-pipe very close to the rear of the car. My installer tells me, if I put the cats back there, I might as well not even install them, because they will not work that far back on the car. I did mention to my installer that the cats only need 140 degrees to work and he laughed. I did call Random Technogy and they would not give me a straight answer. Who am I to believe? Help!!
LG is probably telling you how to max performance, the shop is telling you how to max emissions. Generally the farther they are from the engine, the longer they take to start working. If they are all the way at the end of the car, they may never get to operating temps. Personally Im with the installer on this, but who know, maybe the actually will work back there.......
I believe the main function of the cats in the LG longtube setup is to reduce the noise which would be considerably louder without them. Because of the length of the LG longtubes, even placing them ahead of the x-pipe would compromise the ability of the cats to reduce emissions and there is no provision in the pipes for rear O2 sensors anyway.
I would just install them the way LG recommends and let the good times roll :D
