It's been a while since I thought about this but does the C5 clutch master cylinder have the restrictor in the line like the F-body's??
I am doing a clutch overhaul and wanted to freshen up the hydraulics as well and wanted to do this if it had it. I did notice that the new master has a curved solid line just out of the master, unlike the F-body's. Does anyone remember about the drill mod??
I'm sure some else will chime in with more detail, but yes, there is a restrictor in the C5. I had mine drilled out. I believe we also drilled out the banjo bolt as well.

Re: Clutch hydraulic drill mod question! (jbsblownc5)
I updated to the 02 Z slave and cylinder, there was only 1 spot that needed drilling, it was at the fitting where the lines join together. I believe I drilled it to 1/8 inches.

I haven't heard of this restrictor before! What's it purpose and the reason for circumventing it?
Purpose - to reduce shock to the clutch system from rapid movement of the clutch fluid through the line.
Reason for circumventing - to increase speed of movement of clutch fluid through the line to reduce lazy or stuck pedal syndrome.

I'm currently upgrading all the clutch parts to 04 Z06 specs including slave and master cyl. Would it be possible to perform this mod and bleed it prior to installing on the Vette. I heard it's really PIA to bleed it in the car.

It can be "bench bled" and then installed....

It DAMN SURE is so do yourself a favor and get the clutch extenstion bleeder line which relocates the bleeder line to inside the engine bay  :D....combine that with a Phoenix Injector and you can bleed the clutch in a matter of 3-4 minutes  :D

Very interested in the bleeder extension!! Do you have to drill any holes to get it out of the housing to the engine bay. I haven't been inside the tunnel so I have no idea. But my car is two years old and I would like to bleed the clutch system this year. TIA  :seeya

Not sure about the hole drilling aspect, but I'm fairly sure you have to pull the driveline to get sufficient access to install this item. Give Shawn a call at L.A.P.D. I'm sure he can fill you in on the install.

You can theoretically do it without dropping the driveline, but it is a job that is best done while you are dropping the driveline for something else, like a clutch replacement.

Where is the restictor located on the C5 master? The end that comes off the master has a curve to it. How would you drill this out??
I know the F-body ones don't have that bend. Putting the new motor in the car and want to deal with this promptly. Anyone got any pictures of the modified end or a link to an existing thread??

I think the restrictor is on the line between the master and the slave. You cannot see it in the engine bay but from under the car you can see it under brake booster.

TTT, same question I have....

Do a search. MrEracer (sp?) is da man on this subject. Shirl has spent a lot of time on this matter. :yesnod:

JB-
does this allow faster clutch engage/disengagement? for instance right now if I try to shift into 4th (even at low speed) while keeping rpms up and shift 'too quickly' after pushing clutch pedal, it grinds. If I wait, only a moment after pushing clutch it is fine. Would this mod help or is it more likely to be synchros?
