Sorry for another clutch question- but I've been through all the posts on this and can not come up with a definitive answer. Here's what I'm looking at:
Mcleod Single disk + Steel Flywheel- $875, includes adjustable Master-
I was pretty set on the Spec as everyone described the pedal pressure and feel as not that diferent from stock. The problem is that so many complain of chatter and strange noises- so then I read about the RAM and that was pretty hot last year or the year before for the value of it. I haven't found much on the Mcleod single, but heard the twin was noisy. The Single Exedy sounded nice but $$-
I'm thinking of going with the RAM - as it still seems like a good value. Its mainly for the street, but has to hold 500 to 525hp- I expect all the options will increase pedal pressure- but as long as engagement is smooth, I'm ok.
Any comments on this? What about flywheels?- I've got 46K miles on my stock and assume it could be resurfaced. Is it worth it? What about then going with the SPEC 2/3 and trying to keep the stock flywheel?
I should point out that the Z06 slave is a requirement for all options.
I guess I should add Luk stage 2 for this analysis. I'm not familiar with them- but they are competively priced for a clutch + aluminum flywheel. Right around $800 + the master and slave.
Polo- to answer honestly, right now power is only 350. I'm waiting for some options to vest in June and then I'm 99% sure I will be purchasing A&A Andy's ATI kit- and that should put me right at the 500 to 525hp mark.
My stock clutch is just starting to show signs of wear and I imagine the procharger will accelerate the end of life of my clutch almost instantly, so I'm being realistic and know I should do all this work at once.
So I've found out more about this Luk- It really seems like a hidden gem. It was described to me as the same pedal pressure and engagement as stock without chatter and is rated to 560 ft lbs of tqe.
Its a little more $ than the RAM- but if pedal pressure is the same as stock, I think I'm sold.
Unit comes with an aluminum flywheel for right around $800- It should rival the single disk Exedy for $500 less.
Mallet puts the Luk on their cars (personal and customer)- and I know some of those are pretty radical.
Gentlemen, thank you for information, but I really think I'm sold on the Luk.
I agree there is deff a diff in price but I wouldn't take anything from my exedy at this point--I am not familiar with the Luk but sounds like a good deal--if going with over 500rwhp I would not do the spec again for anything, mixed reviews on the ram but I know the pedal pressure is more than my exedy I've driven one--I hope the luk will hold 525rw--and with stock bottom at that level the motor will last but don't look to change the plugs at 100K it will be eaten up by around 20K unless it is carefully maintained on AF etc--
I was thinking the Luk way too-being that they supply so many OEM clutches. But the OEM clutch setup in the Z06 doesn't even hold up to a stock Z06 when raced. They all have that dreaded pedal stuck to the floor-i know all about it. I cannot see anything different about the Luk changing that unless someone tells me first hand that after tonnes of abuse they don't stick. Just a thought my friend-I too have looking for clutch for my Z and i was 99% set on the Luk-when i changed my mind.
I just installed the exedy hyper single disk for $1100 on a group purchase at Z06vette.com.The clutch is zero balanced as a assembly and went in without a hitch. There is no vibration and smooth engagement with slightly more pedal pressure. It holds like a mother f'r and I have a 480 rwhp.
inarut :
P.S.make sure you replace the slave cynlinder from a Z06 GM part #12562767.

I may be wrong on this, but isn't the pedal on the floor caused by the OEM slave or master? I've seen the stock master, it looks like a piece of shnit. I would get the Mcleod master- which should eliminate any sticking to the floor. I think.---somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
I have the word of a vendor that if the Luk won't hold 525 HP, he'll discount the hell out of a Exedy replacement for me.
Anybody know Chuck Mallet? He's got the Luk stage 2 that I'm speaking of on his personal cars...and he did some of the testing on the Exody. He could use whatever he wants. I'd love to ask him about his experience.
I've got about 10 passes so far on the Exedy Twin with 6500-6800 RPM launches and all is good  I even made 4 runs in about 5 minutes with no issues :D
I'm interested in this issue to. I recently went with the Spec (stage II) and it is already slipping. I'll be chaning my clutch too but have just about decided to go with the McLeod dual disc (single disc I've found for McLeod is rated at 500 horse and I'm planning ot supercharge soon).
I've had nothing but problems with the SPEC so I definately wouldn't recomend it to anyone looking for a performance clutch.
After suffering though 2 SPEC stage III with vibration and chatter. I went with the LUK Stage II. Smooth as silk and better than stock. Call Tom at Carolina Clutch.

I had the Luk gold series clutch put in with the aluminum flywheel. I am very happy with the clutch. It drives exactly like the stock clutch. I put in a new master and slave cylinder and had the "clutch mod" done where they drill you the line. I believe it is rated for 550 FWHP so it works great for me. John @ 21st Century recommended it to me, you may want to give him a call to see if it will hold up with the power you plan to make.
