I just reprogrammed my PCM with my Hypertech Power Programmer. All it really did was adjust the settings letting my computer know that I run premium gasoline, lower the fan settings, and I bumped up the rev limiter a couple hundred RPM. I didn't expect to feel any SOTP increase in peformance, but is this the same as powering down the PCM and forcing the computer to learn my driving habits all over again? If so, can I expect it to perform better in time as I drive it more?
I know many of you aren't big on Hypertech, but it's just temporary until I can get in for a true dyno-tuning.
I used to use a HyperTech. I set my fans for a 160 degree Xstat and since I have an M6, I didn't use any of the tranny stuff. I bumped my rev limiter to 6400, but put it back. I also found out that I couldn't use it to change my tire size. Then I put in the Hypertech tuning and got ping so I took that out. I had headers, a VaraRam and ported TB, so that may have contributed to the ping. I ended up just using it for the 160 deg xstat.
The answer to your question about is it the same as resetting the PCM is no. The tuning puts some timing in and makes some minor changes to the fuel maps. I don't know what ones but on a bone stock car you will see some gains. :)
