Default HP Tuner vs. LS1 Edit

Im sort of new to the board and new to the LS1/Corvette family. Being that Im going to start upgrading and such and know that monitering and optimizing the car is a very important. So as a guy not knowing very much, which one of these two editing/data logging systems would be the best. They are priced about the same. Around 500 bucks for a lisence.

All opinions good, bad and ugly are gladly appriciated.

You will get more info on the scan and tune board but Ill give you the info I picked up about both. LS1 edit is an editing software, you should also have a scaning program. LS1 is locked to your vin # on your car, if you sell your car the program is locked to that vin. I think its 200 bucks you need to pay to get it switched to another vin. HP tuner(which I may buy) is not locked to the vin, it is locked to the year. So you can tune any same corvette in that year(it will have a good resale value) HP tuner also comes with a scaning program (which is a plus). This is the info that I picked up reading the posts at scan and tune. Do a search and youll get all the info you need. :seeya

I have used both. While I have been faithfully using Edit for over 2 years, I will be purchasing HP Tuners from here on out to tune my clients vehicles. HP Tuners editing abilities is better than LS1Edit. HP uploads and downloads in a fraction of the time it takes Edit plus is much safer to use- wont kill your PCM if you lose comm, power, get any kind of interruption, low voltage, etc. And you have access to all the same tables and diagnostic parameters as Edit. Additionally HP TUners has a great user-friendly scanning program that is very easy to export to an excel spreadsheet. Lastly, HP is about the same price as on locked LS1Edit license but with HP you arent locked to one vehicle, you are only limited to make and model year. Nice.

LS1Edit/Carputing definitely has their work cut out for them if they want to sell any more Edit licenses. THe way I see it, they can only lower their price substantially if they want to stay in the market and compete with HP Tuners.

The predator is locked to your Vin and has a scan tool the HPP3 is locked to the year and does not have a scan tool. I have owned both and dynoed with predator / without / and with ls1 edit. With the predator I gained 3hp /2tq peak with no gains anywhere else ........ls1 edit gave me almost 10hp 10 tq and I got huge gains down low(almost 20tq) the car feels awsome and cost me the same amont as the predator to get it done.

He didnt ask about Predator or HPP3, both of which are terrible tuning alternatives to his topic title choices. I'm surprised anyone actually purchases Predator or Hypertech products any more...

ls1edit was the first and only game in town for a long time. The product worked, but they really did not improve it much as time went on. They generally took a keep it all secret approach (encrypting the binaries and really not providing any information on what the exposed parameters did - never taking much time to explore the PCM and help tuners out) and charged customers for any updates (which were actually bug fixes or features that you would assume would have been there in the first place).

Now there are some new players in the game and I have a feeling ls1-edit will be a thing of the past very soon. The new products (HP tuners, and EFI-Live (tuning edition)) will be huge improvments over ls1edit.

I've been following the developments of both of these products and they are both very impressive (the bar was pretty low with ls1edit).

The efi-live product is not out yet, but they have been making the best scanning tool for a long time.

I guess 97-98 owners don't have a choice for now. :nonod:
