Torque converter lockup & unlock.
What speed does the converter lock and unlock with the stock settings?
I have a Vig2800 and it locks up at anything over 40mph and seems to stay locked untill 38mph. At 40 in 4th, if I accelerate slowly enough as to not unlock the converter, it seems to bog the engine for a second. The only thing I can equate it to, is it feels and sounds like a stick shift trying to accelerate in too high of a gear. Just a low RPM bogging feeling with some gurgling engine noises.
Monday I am going to have my tuner raise my converter lockup and unlock speeds to try and avoid this.
Has anyone else had this happen? Any info or feedback would be appreciated.
Depends on engine temp / load and throttle opening, but, with a light throttle and with the engine at operating temp, my stock TC locks-up at 32mph in 3rd (doesn't unlock until 28mph) and 44mph in 'D'. I've never noticed any 'bogging' with the stock TC and settings.

Yea, I have never noticed it with the stock converter in. The lockup on a Vig is a little more aggressive than the stock converter. So you feel it when it locks. That is due to the larger lockup surface area.
Hi, i had mine raised to 50 mph. much better on smaller roads 35-45 mph, but now when i go up a on ramp to a bigger road 50-65 it locks just as i am getting on . I would like to have a switch to keep it off till i am on the road and off the throttel a little.I looked in the service manual , found the wire (t on the 20 way connector tan/blk wire) the manual says when the pcm no longer provides a ground path the tcc solenoid valve de-energizes releasing the tcc. Has anybody tried this ? thanks, walt
