Default Putting a resistor in the IAT sensor

Hey yall. I was reading a list of free mods at installuniversity.com and they were talking about putting a 4.7k 1/2 watt resistor in the connector of the IAT sensor. They said it bumps timing up to 1.5 degrees. Any of yall ever heard of this or done this? Think the extra 1.5 degrees would be worth it? I think I might try this on dad's car just for the fun of it. Thanks yall.

Yes you can add a resistor to fool the PCM by thinking that the air is colder or hotter. I use it only for N20 to retard the timing while running a 100 shot.

I tried it a few times by advancing the timing on a NA run and didn't see much of a difference. Just monitor your knock retard values if you advance the timing.

I have one that make IAT always see 75 degrees. It does work but I would not do it if you mod your car

I think it's a 750 ohm 1/4 watt resistor for retarding the timing 1-2 degrees

They said 4.7K 1/2 watt resistor to make it see 57*.

IMO you are asking for big time detonation if your car is a 1999 or up. I tried this mod on my 99 FRC and had huge detotation at 5600 and up. Went back to the standard set up and it was gone.
Using ATAP, I found max advance is usually around 28.5 or 29 degrees and no more.

What value would you need to retard the timing around 4 degrees and where do you hook the resister in at? Does it go in series and just piggyback or parallel two of the wires? I had my PCM reprogrammed and has about 4 degrees advanced in the programming. I was told I need to at least take that much back out when running nitrous. I've heard the resister trick will work and save from having to plunk down another $270 for a timing module. Anymore info on this guys??

All you do is unplug the electrical connector, insert the resistor into the eletrical contacts, and tape it in. That's how you hook it up. As far as resistors go, I guess go and by a bunch and just start playing with them. Make sure you have some kind of software to be able to read the knock retard and stuff like that.
