Your not going to see GOBS of HP by changing your wires. I used AC Delco rapid fires in my 98 and they seem to work well.
I found out that I had two bad wires during the plug change. I measured each wire with an OHM Meter and they all read around 350 ohms except the two bad ones. They were in the 1-2 MEG OHM range  They were still firing alright but would have sooner or later failed. If they were all reading the same (300-500 ohms), I would have probably not replaced them. They failed because of a careless GM mechanic.
I ordered Magnecors and have been happy with them. They are able to use the factory metal shields and seem to be holding up nicely.
Dont go overboard on wires! If you have headers, I would recommend adding some cool socks to keep the wires from getting too hot.
