When I start the car it has a whine in the area of the alternator. It goes away after a few minutes but then comes and goes. anyone have this or know what it is?
when you first start your car , active handling is warming up... it takes under a minute then you can here that whine stop... this whine does Not change with engine rpm.
Sometimes if your start your car... especially on a cold day.. and make a hard right or left turn before active handling has warmed up...( usually under a minute ) you will get a DIC message " Active handling warm up"
Sorta sounds like a bedroom issue from the title. :lolg:
Takes a while to warm up and then quiets down.
Seriously, What about the air idle valve on the intake. The air pump sounds like a muffled hair dryer so that is probably not the cause. Put a stethoscope on the noise (screwdirver also works) and isolate where it is coming from.
Air Pump! It is located up in the fascia by the left DRL/Turn signal.
:iagree:
Every C5 with an AIR valve makes this noise.. And last I checked, every C5 sold in the U.S. has an AIR valve! It's that assembly that attaches to the drivers-side exhaust manifold, the crap that gets in the way when you try to change spark plugs! :smash:
I had that on mine, supposedly after 2 altenator swaps mine stopped  If it wasnt the altenator they probably accidentally fixed the problem.
make sure your battery cables are tight at the battery, about 3out of 5 cars I work have loose cables which causes the alternator to work harder making it whine.

I'll agree here. Had the whine, had a few altenators (3? lol) replaced and it finally stopped.
