I own a 2003, 6sp with less than 5600 miles. Since taking delivery last June at the Corvette Museum, the "Check Active Handling" display has come on many times. The light would go out when the car was restarted and I was assured by the local dealership that there was no problem. However, when pulling into my driveway two weeks ago, while lightly braking the brakes locked up! The "Check Active Handling" display flashed on alternating with the "Service Vehicle Soon" display. I scheduled the car in as soon as they could take it, the first part of the next week. Over the weekend, driving 40 miles an hour, the brakes suddenly momentarily locked up again. I was not touching the brake!! I avoided injury only because no one was following too closely. My dealer has had the car for over 2 weeks and cannot find a problem. They also assure my that Chevy has not heard of this problem. Man, this scares me. Has anyone heard of or experienced this issue?
Re: Active Handling Locking Up Brakes-WITHOUT BRAKING (mmmboulder)
This sounds like Snake Slayers problem....seems the module which controls the system only had one screw..allowing it to swing freely and activate the system
Re: Active Handling Locking Up Brakes-WITHOUT BRAKING (mmmboulder)
I have a friend who had that happen on a freeway onramp - the right front brake locked (without the brakes being applied), the car went into a guardrail and was totalled.
Re: Active Handling Locking Up Brakes-WITHOUT BRAKING (mmmboulder)
I have run into this on a 01, it turned out to be the steering wheel position sensor, no codes and the swps passed the diagnostic test. Have your dealer call GM tech assist, they should have some cases documented and can point them in the rite direction.

Any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) set?
As to the Dealer never hearing of the problem, you might check page 5-195 of the 2003 Service Manual for the section on Unwanted Activation of VSES. Looks like you might want them to check the Steering Position Sensor to verify if it is operating properly.
Re: Active Handling Locking Up Brakes-WITHOUT BRAKING (mmmboulder)
I had the same thing happen to me, but I did NOT get the "Check Active Handling" message. All I got was "Active Handling" and suddenly it grabbed the left front brake and damn near put me in the median. I was just loafing (Cruise Control) down I40 just South of Knoxesville at about 80mph. Needless to it scared the heck out of me. Tom Jumper Chevrolet could not recreate the error, imagine that. They (Tom Jumper) replaced some brake sensors and said is good to go...

Yes, I have the problem is with the yaw rate sensor located in the dash. Mine came from the factory minus the 7mm bolts need :cuss 5 trips to the dealer and twice almost totaling my car before GM had an engineer from Delphi look at the car. Good Luck
