Ignition wire recommendations please.
I think I have the orignal stock wires with 65,000 miles. Should I replace them even though they still look great? Plug recommendations? It has Autolites in it now with maybe 4,500 miles. Thanks for your help.
You will get a lot of answers here i am guessing......
I went with the Taylor Thundervolt 10 mm wires - My REAL reason is because they have a REALLY high heat rating with no heat shield needed - and my long tube headers leave like a paper clip width between the header tube and the wires (it did not hurt that they are 10mm either) Also I went with NGK TR 55 plugs after MUCH research and lvoe them so far (900 miles).
Summit Racing sells the MSD 8.5 mm superconductor wires for less than $60, and they work great. I don't have headers, so high heat and clearance are not a major issue. I also went with the NGK TR55 plugs. Very happy with this set-up. :D :D
Oh..yea, The Taylor wires are an excellent choice too, and the 10 mm size looks great under hood. Big visual difference.
Are they LS1 specific wire kits? The last time I did wires was 25 years ago and they fit like :U Thanks for the tips guys any other replies are welcome. I did put Kool Soxs on the stockers when I did the LGM headers.
The MSD kit fits nice. I still have the box at home, so I can give you a part# when I get home tonight. I helped a friend install a Taylor kit, and it fit well too, but I dont have a part # for it.

John,
This not a real popular opinion but unless your wires are heat damaged or mechanically damaged there is no benefit to changing them. Get a VOM and check the resistance if they are under 700 OHMS they are good to go. Some wires make a big deal out of claiming low resistance but they may not do a good job on EMI (static) also the spark plug has a 5000 OHM resistor built in series with the plug wire so a few 100 ohms isn't going to make a difference. Finally those coil packs deliver a tremendous wallop it's not like the old days when you had to worry about a marginal spark and to everything to optimize it.
