Apologies that this is such a stupid question, but where in the heck should I be looking for wire strippers that can handle 4 gauge? Battery leak ate through the positive cable termination into the lead and I need to reterminate the cable. I've got everything I need but can't find a large gauge wire stripper. Sears, Home Depot, Pep Boys (didn't expect there, but I looked while I was there) . . . no dice. Pointers welcome (prefer walk-up store to online, but no advice refused!). Thanks.
I typically use a sharp knife (carpenters draw knife) and cut around the circumference of the wire, then remove the coating. If the wire needs to be cut I use good tin snips. As far as a wire stripper that large I have no idea. Hope this is atleast some help.
The same thing happened to me this year. The corrosion had gone too far down the cable to re-strip & terminate, so I had to replace it. I found one on the net for $50.
Good deal on the replacement, that's almost half the cost of a new GM cable. I'm OK on my current one but I'm just kind of persnickety on stuff and don't want to use a pocket knife to cut away the insulation and wonder where one purchases tools to strip 0-4 gauge wire.
