Jacking Position

I drove my car up onto some ramps but needed to also jack up the front end to get more working clearance underneath. I used a piece of 2 by 8 under my jacking wedge but wanted to know what front crossmember should I have used because there was one that the front suspension was mounted to and then there was one directly behind it. Which is the correct one?

For center jacking use rear crossmember. For jack stands on either side, either front or rear crossmember is ok - this is per service manual ('01)
