last week i drove my '99 c5 and found a lot of water drained on the pass side floor. i went to drive it this weekend and the a/c isn't working right.
the fan blower display shows it's all the way up but there's only a whisper of air coming out of the vents. it does seem to feel like it's cooling the air though.
i figured the a/c drain might be plugged up but i don't understand the blower not coming on.
any suggestions?
thanks,
doug
My drain tube plugged also and it was a bear to find. My question is can someone tell me why this happens. An AC guy next door couldn't explain how plain water, supposedly with no mineral deposits can harden enough to stop up this line. Any ideas?
IMO,
I'd say that the drain tube probably does not plug due to mineral deposits in the water. Water in the air isn't totally pure, but I dobut that there are that many dissolved solids to cause a problem. I'd suspect that the drain would plug from some other debris getting into the system and reducing the drain capacity. The drain doesn't have to plug completely to cause a problem.
If your evaporator condenses more water than the drain can handle, then you'll eventually back things up. On a really humind day, you'll condense out a lot more stuff than on a dry day. (that may explain why it just happened the other day)
I'd put the car up on jackstands and look along the firewall for the drain tube and use something to try and open things up.
Algae and bacteria form in untreated water. After a while it will plug up the drain line. This is normal.
Don't forget what else is in that passenger footwell: Your computer. Soak the computer and you'll have a whole new set of problems.
Clean out that drain ASAP.
