Driving my '03 Z06, I can smell rear-end fluid just after hard acceleration. Also, there's gunk caked on the rear subframe just under the case, and some fluid on the case itself. There's only 4800 miles on the car, most of those on the track. Anything I should check?
There has been issues with some of the newer C5's from the halfshaft seals.
There is currently an updated seal for both left and right sides. The updated seals are adouble lip design versus a single lip that is on the old seals.
It's quite possible that this is your problem, and if you're car is still under warranty, the seal replcement is covered by it.
The new GM part number is 88996703 for both sides.
Discovered mine was doing this the last time it was in for an oil change at the dealer. Te Vet mechanic came over to look at it. He just tightened all the bolts around the seal and this seems to have solved the problem. The all turned at least a quarter turn. Might be worth a try.
C5 diffs will blow a little fluid out a vent, if you use the right pedal too hard. Clean it up and see if it come back under normal driving. Many "leaks" are just a little blow-by. You can also try changing your fluid and adding the correct amount, not over-filling, as some seem to come from BG. :yesnod: :)
