Knock and Torque Management
I have been chasing what I thought was false KR with my 99 A4 Coupe the last week or so. So what I've figured out is that what I'm seeing is Torque Management pulling timing. I have been able to determine that the car only pulls timing when I gas it from 50 or slightly less. It appears that the car is yanking timing when it winds up for a downshift so that it doesn't smack the trans as hard. When I hold the car in the right gear e.g. put it in second at 45 or so and mash it it never pulls timing. I need to run more standing start checks where the car runs through the gears but this is difficult since my tracks don't allow passengers, but I've run a few runs from a stop to 70 or so and I rarely see TM KR since the engine is over the torque peak when the auto shifts by itself. Just my observations, I'd like to know if any of the more knowledgable folks agree or disagree with my findings. Thanx in advance, Jeff
