One of the troubleshooting checks in the shop manual for balky shifting is a "shift link adjustment". I have everything apart but I'm not sure what to do. Any help in this matter would be great. It's a 1999 6-sp with 65k miles.
Re: Anyone do a "SHIFT LINK ADJUSTMENT"? (turboo2u)
It's an easy adjusment. First, you place the car in neutral. Then verify that the adjusment pin, that should be hanging on the front of the stock shifter, will fit through the hole in the shift tube.
If the pin slides through the hole, you're OK. If it doesn't, you loosen the clamp that's on the shift rod, and adjust it until the pin slips through the hole. Retignten the clamp to 15 ft/lbs.

Glad I spotted this thread. I have been having some trouble shifting too and an occasional ringing noise launching from 1st. Thanks for the question and the advice guys!

Are you still running the Kirban? If so, you need to put the stock shifter back in to do the adjustment. You may also want to try a fluid change if you haven't tried that yet.

Are you sure about that? All you're doing, essentially, is setting the "neutral gate". I've got a Hurst in mine, and I checked the adjustment this way after installing the Hurst.

If I remember correctly (haven't killed those brain cells yet :D ), the pin lines up the lower flange on the stock shifter and the linkage. I don't remember a way to do with with an aftermarket shifter.
