Some Cheese with That Whine!!
My 01 Coupe with 34,XXX miles is running like a top but I've noticed that the engine has developed a whining noise. All fluid levels are fine and the noise seems to be coming from inside the engine. Anybody else have this problem or have any ideas. My warranty was over last month so I hope it's nothing serious.

I can't help you with the whine, but my company sells a couple billion pounds of cheese a year. (Hey, it is Wisconsin...) What kind of cheese would you like? :D

Could be the bearing in the alternator. You could try running without the belt for 15-30 seconds to see if the whine goes away. You dont want to drive it without the belt due to it being needed for the water pump, but it would not hurt for a quick diagnostic.

Hey Ed how are you doing. My buddy had a similar sound, the dealer (Jack Schmitt in O' Fallon) said it as the alternator going bad, bearing or something. They installed a new one, covered by his extended warranty. Good luck.

Hi Tom,
Love your new Z06 and, thanks for the info everyone. The dealer thinks that it's the belt or, bearing on one of the numerous pulleys. It's just a guess and they still can't get to it until Thursday. To make matters worst I drove the wife's 00 Avenger for the first time in 2 months today and noticed that she needs new tires and brakes. Lady's first I guess. I'm also stalling the vette repair until I can wade through all of the extended warranty flyers and brouchures I've collected. The GM plan was a little rich for my taste. Has anybody ever heard of a company called Direct Vehicle Service Contracts. Their plan looks pretty good to me and cost about half of the GM plan. Thanks a lot!!

There is a Tech Bull. out for an engine whistle. They replace the 2001 stock manifold with a Z06 manifold. Latter 2001s all used the Z06 manifold.
Also, if you put on a Z06 airbox, it sometimes creates a whine.
