Default Q about knock sensor replacement

Got the code for the rear knock sensor. Going to replace them. Anything go on the threads before I install them? FSM says 11 ft-lbs in the installation procedures and 15 ft-lbs under specifications. Recommendations? What's the TSB on this again?

Have you replaced your intake any time recently? I have not seen many knock sensors go out on these cars. Most of the time it is when people put the LS6 intakes on without getting the new coolant pipes. Then the intake will crush the wires and cause a short. You can Ohm out your stock sensors to see if they are bad. They should come out to 1K Ohm resistance. You can check for an internal short as well by using AC current...

I cannot remember and I am not at the shop to check, but I believe that the knock sensors will come with a teflon paste on the threads already. Torque to 11 Ft/lbs.

Good luck,

I did change to the LS6 intake about 10 months ago but I also changed the coolant pipes. I'll ohm out the wiring and sensors as suggested. I was surprised the new sensors didn't come with any sealant on the threads. Any suggestions what I should use?

BTW, is there a special socket for the sensors?

I have seen special sockets for sensors.

Although I have never removed my manifold to inspect this specific question.

The factory manual shows a drawing in which the sensor head is a standard looking hex head.

Let me add that a high failure item is the check value at the rear of the manifold. Might be a great opportunity to do some preventative maintenance on that hard to reach item.

I would use a teflon sealer on the threads. Check for any burns on the wiring harnass or shorts in the wiring.

There is no special sockets for these. Just use a 22mm or 7/8" deep socket.

Good luck,
