i have a '01 Z06. every once in a while when i go to start my car the engine wont start, but the electrical does....you can also here the fuel pump. one time i also got a message to "take key out, wait 10 sec." after a few tries, the engine usually starts normally. does anyone know what the problem maybe, if it is one??

Question, did you have any work done by the dealer in the last 2 months? The pull key sounds like your about to get bit by the dreaded column lock problem.

If it's not something like the battery or alternator give this a shot.
Try your other key...(if you DO have 2). My chip went bad. It would insert
and all the electrical would light up. Got the other key and it cranked right
up. Weird.

i havent had any work done to it in the last two months that would effect the column.

I have this problem when the clutch isn't in far enough --- push a little farther and it starts. Longer legs? Adjust the seat? This is probably not your problem but it is one that I encounter at times.

But his original point remains.. What if you have a bad / flaky clutch position switch?
Re: '01 Z06 wont start, but electrical does..... (JuiceZ06)
The reason I say that (dealer work) is because the recall on the column calls for reprogramming the PCM to not allow the engine to start if the column fails to unlock or malfunctions on a MN6. They reprogrammed mine when it went in a couple of months ago. But If I had payed more attention to the original post I see you say that you hear the fuel pump run which I believe would be disabled if you had the recall work done. So anyway, I think you can safely rule that out. However, I wish I could help you more but mine has never done that. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
Re: '01 Z06 wont start, but electrical does..... (JuiceZ06)
Except for the "Pull key..." message I had the same thing happen once on my '01 a couple months back. When it started (after a half-dozen or so tries) I went directly to the dealer and as I started and restarted it for them--successfully and repeatedly, one time the svc writer saw the DIC flash something like "Security problem," though it started fine. They said they have had this happen with worn keys, but mine wasn't. An immediate check for codes gave nothing at all.
I decided it was simply a "chip glitch" and went on, since no one could find anything to do, anyway.
