My 2000 vert is making a high pitched whistle from the area near the fire wall. It is hard to pinpoint and is quite loud. I changed the intake a year ago. It now has the aluminum one bought when I thought it would make a big difference. The air conditioner works so it's not the small line that folks forget to connect when they change the part. Any ideas? Thanks Ben
Get a small propane tank at any auto parts store, and turn it on (do NOT light it) and move it around all your vacum lines. Your idle will increase when it sucks in the propane. You have found the leak..Goog luck..
There is a vacuum line behind the intake (passenger side under the map sensor). This might be were your vacuum leak is coming from.
A cheap way to know is to get a can of starting fluid or carb cleaner and spray a little around the rear of the intake when the engine is running. Both will make the rpm's go up if there is a vacuum leak.I recommend the carb cleaner because it is less flammible then the starting fluid and it is worth about $1.00.
Use the carb cleaner, not the propane. What's the worst that can happen? "Yes, Mr. Insurance adjuster, I was trying to find a vacuum leak and I was using propane. The next thing I knew, I had a blowtorch in my hands."
