I 've been having problems ever now and then putting my vette in first gear. Sometimes I can push as hard as I won't and it won't go into gear unless I lift off the clutch. Does the clutch need to be adjusted? Or is it going out? It only happens to first gear and it doesn't matter if the car is warmed up or cold.Somebody told me it might be the synchronizers.
This is a common problem with some C5s. Try going into 2nd before shifting to first (if at a stop). Also can put in nuetral, leave clutch out and then go to first. I also switched my transmission fluid to Mobil 1 ATF, it helps.
Does it do it if you have the pedal to the floor waiting for a light and if you slowly let of fthe clutch pedal it slips in? That sounds like what I'm hearing.
If this is the case it is because when you press in the clutch and the car is not moving and everything in the tranny stops, including the syncros. Putting it in neutral, letting out the clutch and going in again will get everything moving.

I had this same problem and never got the right advice. All the car needed was a shift linkage adjustment.
I went through the trouble of having the clutch replace and the transmission inspected only to find out later that all it needed was an adjustment in the linkage - now it works fine. Still a little notchy but now it never refuses to go into first and second.
