I am a new owner of a 97 C5. My car has 27k miles on it and I noticed that there is this high pitch electrical sounding whine from the left rear of the vehicle behind the drivers seat. I have done some research and have found that there was a problem with the fuel pumps making a whine type noise on the early 97-98 C5's and was fixed in 99. I can also hear this noise from the outside of the vehicle when it is running and it definitely is coming from the rear of the vehicle.
Does this sound like a fuel pump issue or could it be something else? It is not the radio or the bose amps.
This whine sounds like a jet engine and is just loud enough to be bothersome when the engine is on and the radio is off and windows are closed.
It is probably the fuel pump. Is it worse on cold days ? Also if you turn on your turn signals, does the noise vary also ? IF both these are true its the fuel pump.
I do notice that the pitch of the whine changes by pressing the window up button with the windows in the up position, pressing the brake pedal with the car in park and also when using the turn signals.
This is not obnoxiously loud but just bothersome.
Do these examples sound like the "fuel pump" problems of the early C5's and if so how much does it cost to have the pump replaced??? I assume these are in the tanks??
