Any one have a Spec 3 cluctch or Mcleod Twin Disk?
Looking at getting a Spec 3 clucth and want to know what I have to upgrade to use it? I will also be getting a new flywheel. I'm thinking of getting a billet steet one.
Re: Any one have a Spec 3 cluctch? (extremecorvette)
I have one. If you are getting a new flywheel I recommend an aluminum. The car revs faster, you get more hp and torque to the road, and there is no penalty. The stories you may have heard about using a steel flywheel for drag racing do not apply to Corvettes. Plenty of low end torque to go around. Also, you will save about 10lbs of weight, better gas mileage ( ), and the car is more nimble out of the corners.
The SPEC 3 grabs like there is no tomorrow. I have had vibration issues with mine and it chatters, even after 1500 miles. It's better than when It was new but it is still there. The vibration issue important though. I have heard that there was a bad run of SPEC pressure plates. Maybe I got one. I had to torture the installer and had to have it balanced to the old assembly TWICE and it still vibrated until he did some tricks with the pressure plate bolts. Thank god they were a reasonable shop and stood behind there work.
If you have under 550hp I would recommend the LUK Stage 2 clutch and pressure plate with Fidanza aluminum flywheel. We just put one in my friends 2000 FRC and it is sweet, runs and feels like stock except it doesn't slip, even with 450 crank hp.
I have the Spec3/aluminum flywheel setup and it grabs hard. However, after a year, it will still chatter if you let it out slow and squeaks when it is cold. It DEFINITELY makes a difference drag racing in my car. My car will almost stall with drag radials unless I dump the clutch at around 4,000-4,500. With the old flywheel, I could launch much lower. I had mine balanced to the old setup. Forget all the pre-balanced, nuetral balanced, special columbian blend balance whatever. If your car didn't vibrate with the stock setup, have it matched to the new setup. Sooooo many people post on here that they zero balance the setup and it vibrates. They then have to chase it by adding washers, which really sucks if your headers cover the inspection cover.
On the road course, the motor has awesome response out of corners with an AL flywheel and you will get used to driving the car pretty quickly.
with fastguy, I have had my spec stage 3 for almost a year now and it does grab like a ***** f'er.. The only thing that stinks is that it chatters which is very annoying. But if you drive it just right and get used to it you can get it to work with out chattering, In the cold temps my clutch also lets out a loud squeeking noise which is very annoying and embaressing. I also have the aluminum fedenza flywheel. If I could do it all over again, I would go with a different set up, probally just a stock z06 clutch unless i had a lot more rwhp id have to resort to something else

Re: Any one have a Spec 3 cluctch or Mcleod Twin Disk? (extremecorvette)
I had a Spec III.....it's very noisy at idle (it's so loud that I was asked if my car was broken!!) and it chatters alot even with a careful breakin......I junked my Spec for the Exedy Twin Disk w/steel flywheel...DAY AND NIGHT DIFFERENCE!!!!! The Exedy is smooth, virtually no chatter and quiet at idle and it weight 5 lbs less than a stock clutch. The smaller rotating mass increases shifting speed. The Exedy is definately worth the extra $$$.....read the posts on the Spec...many, many dissatisified customers.

The SPEC 3 grabs like there is no tomorrow.
I have a Spec Stage 3 in my LS1 427 (500 rear wheel H.P.) It is mated to a Fidanza Aluminum Flywheel. It grabs and holds great. I hear no clatter as some guys appear to have. It did require the use of a McLeod adjustable master for proper adjustment. It's a great clutch.
I have the Spec 3 and AL flywheel. Chattered badly at first.... now that it's broken in and/or I've learned to drive around it, not bad at all. As said before, it grabs like there's no tomorrow. Other high end options may be better, but for the price, I'm very happy with my Spec set up.

I've got the spec III and tear the crap out of it and it's still holding strong. I'm fixing to have over 600rwhp so we'll see how it holds up, but for now it's got over 4,000miles on it and a couple of trips down the track as well as plenty of street races Has some chatter but you get used to it to where it never chatters
Spec StageIII Carbon Fiber baby OOOOOHH YEAH
Rev it up and drop the BITE like none other. I would shy away from the alum flywheel though, great to race, pain on the street!
I installed my SPEC III today and so far I like it alot. I have no vibration. It chatters a little off the line but I am getting used to driving it so it doesn't. It does seem to grab hard but I am still breaking it in so I have not ben able to get on it and shift hard. So far I like it alot. Kaley
A spec 3 will chatter more with an Aluminum flywheel.I've installed 6 Spec 3X 's this year and none of them chatter.I also don't use Aluminum flywheel's for H/C cars. Now the SPEC 3I's can chatter from the iron disk.
The SPEC Stage 3 X-Pad is a good all around clutch kit. It will handle about 700fwtq. Drives/shifts like a stock clutch but has a harder pedal feel. It is easily slippable in traffic. We install tons of these things and put them out the door faster than we can stock them.
We have them all day everyday at $400 with free shipping to anywhere in the US. I have the spec steel billet flywheels for $225 w/ free ship and the spec aluminum (With wear plate) for $369 w/ free ship.
We have them in stock and can ship same day of ordering mon-fri.
