I have LG's with the RT cats on my Z06. I notice more sound under the car now than before. I've checked and rechecked for leaks and can't find any. I've laid under the car with it on ramps and running and I can't pinpoint one place and I see no soot marks or condensation leaks. My pipes are all welded (clamped at the collector of course) because I couldn't keep my Stingers aligned without. The sound I hear is almost like a tinny air sound if that makes sense. I notice it more if I accelerate and there's a car or wall or something next to me where I get the rebound sound of that car or wall.
Would I see soot or some evidence if it's leaking at a connection somewhere? Is this just normal engine noise which is louder due to the thinner pipe walls? I'm stumped.
That tinny sound is normal of a car equipped with headers. I think what you are hearing is totally normal. If it were leaking you would see the carbon/soot at the leak.
Drove me nuts on my First LS1 Header car. I always thought I had a leak.
Take a look at your stock mid section and compare the thickness of the pipes versus the LG pipes. The Stock part on my '04 looks to be double walled by the pup cats.
Yup! It's normal. The stock cast manifolds muffle a lot of the valve train and combustion chamber noise out and that's what you hearing through the thin wall stanless tubes.
