Default 4:10's

we have a 2004 a-4 convertible with the 2:73's. i was told to put full length headers and 4:10's. that would give us the most bang for the buck. i was also told that with the 4:10's that my tach would read about 2,200 rpm at 80 while with 2:73's it should be at 1800. after i left the shop, i got on freeway and did 80, tach was at about 2000 rpm. what is the real story? anyone already done this mod to their vehicle? thx kurtnjenn

an A4 with a 2.73 at 2000 rpm is approx 80 mph
with a 4.10 at 2000 rpm is approx 53 mph - you will need 3000 rpm to 80 mph.

I went from 3.15s to 4.10s with LG Motorsport Longtube headers on my wife's 2000 A4. Very happy as this provides maximum fun for the buck. Only downside is learning to drive the car. If you were to simply mash it from a stop you will spin through 1st and spin thru 2nd! Highway mileage dropped from about 28 to 26. Have Corsa Tiger Sharks and when you accelerate people know it. Not annoying at cruise though. You will have to have your shift points adjusted by the installer as it would hit the rev limiter at WOT without the adjustments.

4:10's sound a bit much for an A4. You might be happier with 3:73's.

go with 3.73's or even 3.90's.
I have heard that 4.10's are a little low for the A4.

Track car 4.10s, street car 3.73s and don't look back.
I loved 3.73s in the A4, you will have a hard time with traction with the 3.73s, so get some good tires. 3.73s run around 2550 rpm at 80MPH.
