Car is hitting 230 degrees while standing????
I had a flush done recently to my C5. Since then my temperature goes up beyond 220 and sometimes 230 degrees. I have a 160 degree thermosthat and housing. Any idea why this is happening? When will the fan turn on? At what temperature do they start up? Could it be an air bubble in the radiator?

I beleive the stock fans tun on at 219/229. So yeah- 230 degrees sounds reasonable in traffic in tthe summer. I've had mine well over 250 after an autocross run.
Try turning on the A/C- the fans automatically come on lower (forget the exact temp) and should keep the temps under 220.

For later model years:
The low speed cooling fan is commanded on when the coolant temperature reaches 108°C (226°F). It is turned off if the coolant temperature lowers to 104°C (219°F). The high speed cooling fan is commanded on when the coolant temperature reaches 113°C (235°F). It is turned off if the coolant temperature lowers to 108°C (226°F). When the A/C is on and the coolant temperature reaches 85°C (185°F), the low speed cooling fan will be turned on at vehicle speeds less than 56 kPh (35 mph).
For early model years:
Low speed fans come on at 219,high speed fans come on at 228,low speed with a/c on...

There could be an air bubble trapped in the system from the flush. This could cause the problem. There is a way to get it out, but, I have forgotten. Maybe someone else can jump in. Water Wetter will do nothing in anti-freeze. 2 bottles did nothing for my 00 C5.

Has anyone reprogramed the fan switch to turn on at an lower temp? The low thermostahat device I installed, I had installed in my C4 and it maintains the level at a lot lower temp. I seen a device that allows you to control the temp in ecklers.
Anyone knows anything about it?

I've installed the 170 stat and a fan controller,it is working perfect. The fan controller is adjustable and blends in with the rest of the underhood wires. The car hasbeed modified to the point where I needed PCM programming,I used a Vinci unit to program the car and one of the options was what temp the fans turned on so I use this as a back-up.

Saw where your car has many mods. Get LS1 Edit. Can be a little expensive, but well worth it. I had this done and my fan cuts on at 187 deg. F. Last week it was 100 deg outside. In slow traffic my car got up to 203 deg. 45 minutes of sitting and barely moving in 1st gear. This was with a/c on. But I haven't noticed where turning on my a/c brings down the temp any. But I rarely run a/c. Only if the heat is unbearable.
